Why does David Coursey want a Pentium Mac? He sure has a point when he proposes an Apple-built, dual-boot, intel-based Mac, but I don't see that happen any soon. Can you imagine Steve Jobs presenting an 'intel-inside' box in his next Steve-note? I sure can't... Read the commentary on c|net Asia. (0) comments iChat AV envy? Lazy Summer The world of Macintosh seems to have fallen in a digesting nap after the WWDC. With all the good news about G5s and Panther coming up a and not much to speculate about for the Macworld CreativePro show in NY and vacation time coming up there's not much new to report on. Power... Ted McGinty thought he was living the high life. Plucked from a ramshackle house he shared with two roommates, he was sent to live in a lovely two-story Victorian with a view of the water. He scored a nice job as a mid-level manager at a local hospital and was on his way to a masters degree at the local college. And then a giant robot from outer space arrived. McGinty watched it destroy his home before it turned on the rest of the city, leaving a trail of devastation in its path. Soon the metropolis where McGinty thought he could make a fresh start was gone. “What happened to my home?” he cried. “Who did this to me?” You did. You were bored with that city, and its crushing budget deficit didn’t help matters. There is no place like home... or is there?
British astronomers say they found the first sun-like star with a giant gas planet in an orbit similar to Jupiter's, which leaves plenty of room for worlds like Earth and Mars. The discovery "moves this star to No. 1 on the list" of places to look for a planet like Earth, said astrophysicist Hugh Jones of Liverpool John Moores University, who led the team that made the discovery. ... From MacCentral:
... Jupiter research analyst Michael Gartenberg thinks this could be a good start for Apple, although they will have some of the same old problems to overcome. "Apple is fighting three myths: one is that you pay a huge price premium; the second is that there is no software; and the third is that they are tremendously proprietary," said Gartenberg. "The truth is, none of those things are accurate -- Apple is price competitive relative to their competitors; there is plenty of software for the tasks most individuals need to do and beyond; and Apple supports far more open standards than any other competing operating system. You combine that with a product like the G5 and you have to believe that lots of people are going to start taking a look at this -- if they can overcome their Apple prejudice." ...Read the whole story |
